Review/Swatch: Maybelline Color Sensational Lipstick in Coral Crush

The Maybelline Color Sensational lipsticks has been one of the most reviewed drugstore lipstick since it came out a few years ago. Obviously, I haven't really thought about purchasing one until their Bold Matte line came out. Luckily, I waited for it to go on sale before purchasing this.

Price:
Original price is P399, but I bought it on sale for 20% off.

Place bought:
SM North Edsa (Available in all their dept. stores)
Packaging:
packaging is quite sleek for a drugstore lipstick, although the cap is made of plastic. the ingredients are attached on the cap as seen in the picture, but it's quite hard for me to see what's written on it.

Scent:
I took a whiff of the lipstick and my brain told me, "oh no." Although the scent of the lipstick is not strong and you can't "taste" it when it's on your lips (ladies, ya know what I'm talking about), it annoys me that the scent lingers for a few minutes, making me choke cough everytime I wear this. It has this powdery, vanilla-y, perfume-y scent that I wish they did not include in the product. I wish they just stayed scentless, like the Maybelline Watershine pure or the Maybelline Bold Mattes which I enjoyed immensely.

Out of all the pretty shades, I picked "Coral Crush". I don't know why, but I've noticed that I find myself gravitating towards peaches, corals, orange and cool toned pinks (even if it's a bad idea since I can't pull off cool toned pinks very well...but it so pretty to look at from the tube...hehehe!) from bright to pastel shades. Maybe I should find more dark colored lipstick to complete my lipstick obsessions? Maybe?

Formulation:
I've worn this without a lipbalm underneath and it still applied quite smoothly, given that my lips are not very dry and flaky that day. The pigmentation is good even though the color spreads out a bit patchy on my lips. It applies to a satin finish, but the color wears off like a stain on my lips after 3-4 hours (with or without eating or drinking).

Swatch:
depending on the lighting, the color (on me) changes from dark orange-y coral (indoor lighting) to a bright coral like the one in the picture above (outdoor/natural lighting).

Pros:
- affordable and easily accessible (on sale most of the time)
- wide range of colors to choose from
- great pigmentation

Cons:
- I don't like the scent.
- color spreads out a bit patchy

Will I repurchase?
Maybe not.

Review/Swatch: Maybelline Bold Matte lipstick MAT 1 & MAT 2

Bright matte lips are on trend right now and no matter how dry my lips are, matte lipsticks will always have a place in my heart. Unfortunately, ever since I had atopic dermatitis, I can't pull off any kind of lip product. Even lip balms are no match for my dry lips especially when my skin is flaring up. So whenever I feel like my skin and lips are in a "happy place" or at least normal in my standard, I go crazy with lippies...the bolder the color, the better.

So whenever you see me posting about lip products, you betcha those days are what I consider my "good skin days".

Purchased some Maybelline bold matte lippies to try out last January and I haven't even opened these two (among many other new products that is still in their pristine condition...yeah, I'm borderline hoarder hahaha!)
Maybelline Bold Matte Lipsticks
Packaging:
it looks like this when the seal is unopened. When the seal is removed you'll be left with a bare frosted plastic cap. Overall look is ok, with a decent weight to it.

Price:
got these on sale for 20% off its original price of P399

Place bought:
SM North Edsa

I think when I was purchasing this, I only saw 5 or 6 different shades in the bold matte line. I checked reviews about this in the internet and saw that in other Asian countries, they have 7 or more different shades to choose from this line (no fair!)...don't know if they have added the "new" shades here 'cause I'm not up to date anymore and I'm not in the mood to collect this lipstick line as of now.

 Ingredients:

Scent:
no detectable scent which I prefer.

Pigmentation:
In my opinion, the pigmentation is great. It is very bright with a hint of neon in it (at least in these shades I got).

Formulation:
-It applies smooth on my lips which is surprising for a drugstore "matte" lipstick 'cause the ones I've tried dragged on my lips (but I still love you Wet n' Wild megalast lipcolor).
- Even though it does not make my lips look chalky or super dehydrated, it is still not moisturizing enough for me to wear without a lipbalm underneath which is understandable because all matte lipstick are like that.
- although this is a "matte" lipstick, other people find that this lipsticks give a very subtle satin look to the lips (which can be remedied by blotting the lips with a tissue to make it look matte). My lips are naturally dry already, so it looks matte on me from the get go. hehehe!
- I don't know about other people, but I like how it stains my lips after long hours of wear. I can wear this for 6-8 hours max.

MAT 1
bright, almost neon pink on my lips

unfortunately, when I opened the MAT 1, the tip of the lipstick was ruined. I don't understand how it happened because I made sure the lipstick was new and the seal has never been touched by anybody.

Swatch:
I swatched this with a lipbalm underneath. It's no biggie since I'll just blot my lips with a tissue and it will looked completely matte.....if I don't wear a lipbalm underneath, this will look matte on me.

MAT 2
bright, neon orange red on my lips

Swatch:
I find that this is a tad more pigmented than the MAT 1.

Pros:
- affordable and easily accessible (Maybelline is on sale most of the time.)
- decent amount of shades to choose from.
- great pigmentation.
- although it is not moisturizing, it still feels comfortable to wear for long periods of time and it does not give your lips a "chalky" look.
- I like that it stains the lips (I can wear this as a lip tint) and it does not look patchy once the color wore off during the day.

Cons:
  - I can't think of any.

(Long Post) Battle of the Affordable Makeup Removers: Maybelline Lip and Eye Makeup Remover vs. Etude House Lip&Eye Remover

Oh yes! It's just LIP&EYE REMOVER...scary description, but I think we get what this is supposed to do.

I've read so many reviews about this and some said that this is comparable and even better than the Maybelline lip and eye makeup remover. For me, yes, it CAN be comparable to the Maybelline lip and eye makeup remover, but it doesn't perform better than Maybelline.

I feel that, sometimes, people could get carried away with the cuteness of it all, the packaging, the marketing, etc. and I don't blame them for that bec. I'm a sucker for great packaging too, but since I've tried so many products, I've learned to see the difference of one product from another, not in a biased way.

Etude House Lip&Eye Remover
has a bilayer composed of an oily substance and "water", just like any other waterproof lip&eye makeup remover.

Current Price:
P198

Place bought:
Etude House flagship store in SM north edsa The Block

Smell:
- like baby oil

description w/ a special appearance of kitteh:

Comment:
Pros:
- removes waterproof eye makeup easily.
- is affordable for P198
- packagaing is cute for most people, for me it's just ok...

Cons:
- stings my eyes for just a teeny weeny bit. Now, I've realized I have sensitive eyes too.
- gives me blurry vision for a few minutes.
- since my skin is sensitive too, the skin around my eyes also stings a teeny weeny bit.
- smells like baby oil which I'm a bit iffy about. It makes me think that I'm applying baby oil around my eyes. Baby oil is kinda harsh to be a makeup remover especially around the eyes...in my opinion, at least.
- feels a bit oily after applying this on my eye area.

Maybelline Makeup Remover
Sorry, it's almost empty when I remembered taking a picture of this...since I don't do haul posts anymore, I usually remember taking pictures of products that I'm going to review when the product is almost used up or if I have already finished it. I'll still try to take pictures of products in their brand new state to at least make my post look more....organized? (^_^)v

as you can see, the Maybelline makeup remover also has a bilayer of "water&oil" that you shake/mix up before using, same as the Etude House one.

Place bought:
Watson's

Current Price:
P99.00 (this is the smaller version of the regular sized Maybelline lip&eye makeup remover). The regular size is P199.00, just a peso difference from the price of Etude.

Smell:
- no scent at all, which I'm very, very thankful for since I already have a very, very sensitive eye area.

ingredients and description of the product (yes, you can click all photos in my blog to enlarge)

Comment:
Pros:
- removes waterproof eye makeup easily.
- no scent at all.
- did not sting my eyes and eye area one bit.
- did not give me blurry vision
- comes in 2 sizes (small at P99 and regular at P199)
- eventhough this is a peso more than the price of Etude, it is still fairly affordable.

Cons:
- still feels a bit oily after appyling on the eye area like Etude, which is what you expect in almost all bilayer eye makeup remover.

Conclusion:
It's obvious that for me, the Maybelline lip and eye Makeup Remover wins!

What made the difference for me?
- the SCENT. For people with extremely sensitive skin, who easily experience an allergic reaction to scents (at least on my face, since I can still put on certain perfumes on my body without any allergic reaction), I think Maybelline is the one for me. I still like the makeup remover by Etude bec. it still does the job in removing eye makeup, but I would love it if it doesn't have any scent at all.

FYI:
My Etude House lip&eye remover is already finished for quite sometime now and my Maybelline makeup remover is almost out too, so I'm alternating the Lancome Bifacil and Extra Virgin Olive Oil (EVOO) as my current lip&eye makeup remover. After I've finished my Lancome Bifacil, I will switch back to Maybelline and EVOO bec. these suits my skin more than the Lancome and Etude.

If ever there will be a new makeup removing product, I am still open to try, use and review them, but I will still keep on coming back to EVOO and Maybelline.

First Haul/Review/Swatch of 2011: Maybelline Water Shine Pure Lipstick in C22

Just bought this lipstick yesterday out of curiosity. I think I'm falling in love with Maybelline lipsticks. That being said, I think it would be a bad idea to collect everything since I still have tons of lipstick that I haven't finished up...I admit I'm a lipstick addict..hahaha!

On with my first haul/review/swatch - Maybelline Water Shine Pure w/ Natural Water + Minerals.

First of all, when did water become synthetic? really weird. Anyway, this lipstick is a far cry from my usual very pigmented lipsticks because it has a thinner consistency than the usual lipstick and has the appearance of a lipgloss finish, but is more pigmented than the usual lipgloss.

Unfortunately, this Water Shine Pure line is only labelled by an alphabet code and number code. I don't blame them, creating an original label for each lipstick is really hard nowadays especially when there are tons of lipsticks out there in the market.

Eventhough their packaging is made of plastic, it still looks sleek. I prefer this packaging than that of their Colorsensational Moisture Extreme line (which I've recently found out that it is an exclusively sold only here in Asia)

 Natural light:
This is the most orange-y lipstick that I could find in the whole Maybelline lipstick range. I think they should create more variety of orange-y lipstick instead of always making pink of almost the same shades...I get it, they are a pro in making fantastic pink and red shades, but how about orange? hehehe!

W/ flash:
In the tube, it looks like a light orange with fine shimmers in it.

Swatches:
 Natural light:
but, when applied on the lips, it only gives it a nice lipgloss-y sheen that is very wearable for everyday.

Comments:
Pros:
- affordable only P299.00 (Next time, I will wait for it to go on sale so I could purchase it for a cheaper price.)
- I find that all shades of this line is very wearable for daytime.
- does not have any scent.
- thinner consistency than the usual lipstick
- more pigmented than the usual lipgloss.
- pigmentation is buidable, but only up to medium coverage.
- more moisturizing compared to the Colorsensational Moisture Extreme lipsticks.
- surprisingly brightens up my sallow skin, making it more alive.

Cons:
- color wears off easily, up to 2 hours max w/o eating or drinking, so you have to re-apply through out the day which I don't mind doing.

Am I going to purchase more?
yep! but only when they are on sale so I could buy it at a cheaper price.

Review/Swatch: Maybelline Colorsensational Moisture Extreme Lipcolor in Soft Azallea

Yes, another Maybelline lipstick with a very long name...why do they create long names for lipsticks is still a mystery to me. Fortunately, with their long name comes a wide range of colors and finishes for a good quality drugstore lipstick.

This was actually one of the "impulse" purchase that I've mentioned in my past post when there was one time that SM Northedsa was having a one-day weekday sale that I think, not many people knew about...including me. Fortunately, my sister-in-law and I were there and of course, we got a little crazy with almost everything..hehehe!

At that time, Maybelline was having a 30% off on all items so, I grabbed the opportunity to try their lipstick which I have always been planning on trying anyway and I bought this:

Maybelline Colorsensational Moisture Extreme Lipstick in Soft Azallea

This was the first lipstick that caught my attention at that time...I guess you could say, it was "love at first sight" hahaha! Surprisingly, I haven't seen any reviews or swatches of this lipstick. It's quite disappointing that people would pass up on this beautiful lipstick color.

Natural light:
As you can see, this looks like a bright rose pink w/ a hint of berry...and no, it's not fuschia pink.

 W/ flash:

Comment:
Pros:
- it is a cream finish
- quite moisturizing, but you still need to apply lipbalm before the lipstick for smoother application.
- staying power is amazing!
- pigmentation is great!
- stains the lips which will look like you only applied a lipstain and honestly, it still looks great.
- from my experience, this shade brightens my face, making it look more alive!
- smells good...like watermelon.
- glides on smoothly.
- affordable, especially if you buy maybelline products during sales...I bought this for P209.30 only

Cons:
-none!!!

Natural light:
sorry for the crappy photo.

w/ flash:
Note: if you apply this lipstick straight from the tube, you will get the full effect of the pigmentation it gives. So if you want to get a sheer wash (like a lipstain look), apply a small amount of lipcolor on your lips, then dab and spread the lipcolor with your finger.

...Yes! I will re-purchase this lipstick again and I will try more shades soon!!!

Swatch/Review: Maybelline Moisture Extreme Lipstick in Born With It

I can't believe that this is my first Maybelline lipstick. I mean, I love their products (especially their foundations) because it doesn't give any kind of bad reaction to my skin, but I never thought about buying lipsticks from them...I really don't know why...maybe because the saleslady always scare me away before I could fully "examine" their products in peace? hahaha!

Maybelline Moisture Extreme Lipstick in Born With It

Price: To be honest, this was only given to me by my mother when she went to Canada, so I don't really know the exact price of this in the Philippines...but acc. to other Philippine beauty blogs that I've read, It's P299 here.

Natural light:

w/ flash:

Comment:
Pro:
- It smells good...like watermelon.
- not sticky.
- quite moisturizing.
- not really that pigmented for my lips, but it is buildable.
- I guess, it's not that expensive?

Cons:
- none so far. (^_^)

Will I buy more:
- sure, why not!

Swatch:

Natural light: (Sorry for the blurry pic)

Review: Maybelline Lip Smooth Color&Care w/ SPF 16 in Strawberry

I bought it out of boredom and because they said that they have the new packaging of the old Maybelline Lip Smooth.

This is the old version....
pictures courtesy of sasa.com

You see, this was my very first lipgloss/lipbalm before I started with all of this makeup craze I'm having...This was like my "complete" makeup look..I remember I used the cherry flavored one....my mother likes this too...that's why she never returned it to me...(-_-)...

Anyway, now that they have a new packaging and "formula"..I was excited to try it again...

I was eyeing the cherry flavored one first before I decided to get the strawberry because many people have been raving about the "great tint" it gives on your lips...How I wish I bought the cherry flavored one...I should have listened to my conscience...hahaha! Not that this strawberry one looks bad on me, but I like a bit more pigmentation in all of my lipgloss and lipbalms..I hate the natural pigmentation of my lips...

The new packaging is just so-so for me...nothing really special...

    what it looks like...

Comment:
 Pro:
- very affordable (P89)
- available at almost every department stores, drugstores, convenient stores, etc.
- I think if I chose the CHERRY one, it would give me more pigmentation...
- very moisturizing
- It smells really good! Reminds me of my first lipsmooth...hmm...
- doesn't feel sticky or heavy on the lips.

Cons:
- this strawberry variant is not that pigmented enought for me.
- I don't know if I'm the only one who notice this, but everytime I unconciously lick my lips, there's a very, very slight weird taste and the smell of the lipbalm becomes a bit overpowering which sometimes makes me nauseous...THIS HAPPENS IF I LAYER THE LIPBALM A BIT TOO MUCH.

All in all, I would still recommend this for you to try...but I still miss the old version of the lip smooth...hmm...

Lip Swatch:

yep, I hate the pigmentation of my lips...anyway, here's the lipbalm with just one swipe...

what it looks like when it is layered on...not much of a difference...

Hope you enjoyed my review!!
